Description
This homemade stir-fry sauce is rich, flavorful, and perfectly thick for coating meats and vegetables. Made with simple pantry ingredients, it’s a quick and easy way to elevate any stir-fry dish. Want an extra-thick sauce? A simple cornstarch trick will do the magic!
Ingredients
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup water
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
For an extra-thick sauce:
- ½ tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water, brown sugar, cornstarch, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
- Pour the mixture into a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sauce begins to thicken, about 3-4 minutes.
- If you prefer an extra-thick sauce, mix an additional ½ tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water. Stir this slurry into the sauce.
- Let it simmer for an extra minute, allowing the sauce to reduce naturally.
- Remove from heat and use immediately or store for later use.
Notes
- Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- For a gluten-free version, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
- Adjust sweetness and spice level to taste by modifying the brown sugar and red pepper flakes.
